You will not learn to love God by staring endlessly at the quality of your love. Look to the God who has made himself known in Jesus Christ. Receive again the peace of justification. Ask the Spirit to incline your heart. Bring rival loves into the light. Remain in Scripture, prayer, worship, fellowship, the table, and concrete obedience. Love the people God places before you. Carry the gospel outward. Lament in suffering. Return when you fall. Persevere toward the day when faith becomes sight and divided love is made whole.

The command is total. The source is grace. The way is Christ. The power is the Spirit. The fruit is love. The end is God himself.
