How to Use This Book

~1 min read

  • For personal study: read one chapter each week, look up the key passages, answer the reflection questions, and practise the stated response.

  • For small groups: divide the book into six parts. Use one or two chapters per meeting and select questions appropriate to the group.

  • During spiritual dryness: begin with Chapters 4, 8, 11, 12, and Appendix D. Reduce the quantity of reading if necessary, but remain honest, connected, and Godward.

  • For teaching: use the thesis boxes, distinction tables, diagrams, and indexes to locate material quickly.

  • For pastoral care: distinguish spiritual, relational, bodily, and psychological factors. This book is not a substitute for a pastor, physician, or qualified mental-health professional.

Important distinction

This book does not teach that disciplined readers automatically become loving Christians. Knowledge can inflate pride, and religious activity can conceal unbelief. The goal is truth received by faith, applied by the Spirit, and expressed in repentance, obedience, worship, and love.
